What ATC Auckland Gliding School is all about ...

From the beginning of time Birds have been flying the skies and so the fascination of flying without motive power has intrigued us in how can this be so! The Royal New Zealand Airforce has served this country, performing a huge number of roles in a myriad of situations all over the world, both during peace and in time of war. The desire of young New Zealanders to participate in outdoor activity has seen the Air Training Corp through the New Zealand Cadet Forces provide a stepping stone for our youth to explore the forces as a future Career Path, countless volunteers around the Country giving their valuable time to see the youth of today become the leaders of tomorrow.

In New Zealand, as in many countries the world over, Gliders have been the introduction to flying and aviation for many young men and women. Many of these Cadets have gone on to establish careers in military or civilian flying.

What the organisation does ...

The Air Training Corp Auckland Gliding School was formed by five forward thinking Squadrons that saw a need to provide Cadets with a clear path that would lead them to flying Solo and gaining either a position flying Military or Civilian Craft. This organisation has seen many stalwarts of the Cadet Forces give countless hours of their time to taking eager Cadets into the air.

ATC Auckland Gliding School was originally conceived in 19XX to provide Self-sufficient Gliding with a Falke Motorised Glider that is now in the Classic Plane Category.

Regular weekend and public holiday gliding

As a Squadron Cadet you will have the opportunity to be have regular Gliding Lessons with our Team of accomplished Gliding Instructors. Put quite simply, if you have an interest in flight, ATC Auckland Gliding School is for you. You can become involved as much or as little as you like, please let your Squadron Flight Co-ordinators know that you want to learn to Glide.

Our Supporters are people from every walk of life who have an interest in aviation and get pleasure from the youth learning life skills in a safe environment (Many of these people are devoted parents). Some of our members have had prior involvement with the military and the aviation industry, as you would expect, but for many others Gliding is the culmination of a lifelong interest and fascination which otherwise they would not have realised.

You don't have to be an ATC Squadron to come Gliding

ATC Auckland Gliding School has many requests from the Army & Navy Cadet Forces Units and we welcome your bookings to provide your Cadets with some variety.

The glider is also available to other community youth organisations who would like to make a special outing of a days flying at Drury. Please contact us for more information.

Our Glider is currently located at Drury south of Auckland to enable members to exchange knowledge and pool their skills in a friendly social environment.
